Active Choices

Active Choices offers a diverse programme of activities for adults who require extra support to get started - such as those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental illness, dementia, sensory impairments or autistic spectrum conditions.

Inclusive cycling at Robin Park

Active Choices improves access and choice to get more people in the borough active.

You can choose from lots of different physical opportunities including:

  • Sport
  • Dance
  • Fitness sessions
  • Swimming
  • 1-1 and group activities
  • Cycling and walking

Since becoming more active it has built up my confidence and self-esteem, and given me the ability to socialise with people once again.

We can also help you access our leisure centres - six across the borough - and support you to access other Inspiring healthy lifestyles sessions, local sport clubs, and other activities in Wigan borough, for up to 12 weeks.

Activities are held at a wide range of locations, from leisure centres to green spaces and neighbourhood community venues.

These activities are low cost, and operate on a pay as you go basis.

We encourage friends, family and personal assistants to come along and join in with activities; some activities are free with a lifestyle card whilst in a caring role.

We also provide training for support workers and carers, to ensure physical activity is a part of everyday life.

If you want to get more active but don’t know where to start, get in touch and our trained staff will give you advice and support you need.

Volunteering opportunities

If you are able to give something back and want to help out at sessions then get in touch about becoming a volunteer.
